Integrated Weapons and Sensors (IWS) is a Business Segment within the Vehicles and Tactical Systems (VTS) domain. The IWS Business Segment supplies weapons as well as maintenance, repair and upgrade services to the Australian Defence Force (ADF). IWS exports both military and civil weapons to Government and non-Government customers in the international market.

We are seeking a Weapons Manufacturing Technology Consultant to provide technical, small arms manufacturing knowledge to the Manufacturing Technology team. This role is responsible for ensuring that best practice manufacturing processes, tools and ways of working are in place for the Manufacturing Technology team to develop and industrialise products with the approved characteristics to an agreed cost, quality and timescale. Additionally this position will ensure that the best available manufacturing technologies are identified, evaluated and employed where appropriate and provide expertise in weapons manufacturing technologies for the IWS business.

Specifically you will:

  • Lead the team in all aspects of weapons manufacturing including best practice and state-of-the-art small arms manufacturing technology and practices.
  • Develop the site manufacturing technology plan
  • Identify and proposing the toolroom and manufacturing equipment required.
  • Leading the identification of root causes and their resolutions for manufacturing related issues.
  • Coach the team to generate continuous improvement through the use of Competitive Manufacturing/LEAN principles and tools

The successful candidate will have tertiary qualification in Engineering or Manufacturing management or equivalent experience. Additionally you must have significant experience in all aspects of modern small arms manufacture. You will also possess strong leadership and management skills, experience working in manufacturing production, and the ability to lead a team to industrialise new product/component design in a manufacturing environment. Working knowledge of weapon function, particularly in a military environment and experience of mechanical component design will be highly regarded.
