About the Role
Lead and execute the primary freight strategy to drive a safe and sustainable primary freight and collection service, achieving an optimal cost to serve across the Metcash pillars and be a pivotal lead in our vendor engagement strategy.
This role can be based in Sydney or Melbourne.
What you'll do:
- Assist in developing / updating a primary freight strategy for the Metcash business
- Execute this strategy - work with transport partners and operations teams, structure the commercial and contractual terms in line with industry best practice and negotiate the commercial terms with vendors
- Highlight prospective primary freight partners
- Manage the commercial reporting
- Manage the implementation and “go lives” in collaboration with operations teams
- Build a primary freight business to generate operational and commercial benefit for Metcash
What you'll bring:
- Transport sector experience, including key providers and sector specific risks and issues
- Transport sector operating experience, including operational best practice knowledge and the management of own drivers and fleet
- Commercial reporting, forecasting and P&L understanding
- Understanding of Chain of Responsibility
- Business case development experience
- If not “hands on” project management experience, someone who naturally engages in a structured way and is conversant with systems and process
- An up to date understanding of transport models including, 4PL and fleet solutions application to a retail logistics sector
