Our client is one of Australia's most well known flooring and counter top solution providers and they are currently searching for a high level Afternoon Shift Manager to join their team.

Located in Melbourne's North, reporting to the Operations Manager, you will be responsible for ensuing the warehouse is operated efficiently and effectively during the afternoon pick, pack and loading operation. Identifying and implementing policies and procedures to ensure an environment of continuous improvement is fostered and developed. Helping to ensure an efficient distribution of products whilst liaising with all department to maintain effective communication with all channels.

Managing a staff of 20, this person is required to have strong leadership skills and not be afraid to lead by example. being hands on and empathetic whilst maintain continuous improvement. innovation is highly valued with plenty of career development opportunities within this company and its subsidiaries.

4pm - 12pm Monday to Friday $70-$80K+Super pa + afternoon loadings expect to earn closer to $90-$94K

Major Responsibilities include:

  • Follow all procedures in accordance with OH&S/Environment policies and procedures and legislation
  • Actively demonstrate safe work processes, and behaviours and ensure these are followed by all employees and contractors in their place of work
  • Ensure all hazard identifications and risk assessments are completed and processed quickly and efficiently i.e. team and individual compliance completing target safety observations Actively participate in OH&S training
  • Ensure timely and regular safety observations are complete and in a discussion format
  • Ensure all reporting of incidents is timely and accurate.  Ensure all incidents are handled under the guidance of company procedures and policies including the correct completion of any paperwork
  • Ensure a high standard of housekeeping is maintained
  • Hold effective regular toolbox meetings with staff to ensure a “bottom up” approach to safety by tabling critical feedback, reviewing work instructions & attending site leadership meetings

Warehouse Operations

  • Ensure that PIFOT (picked in full on time) is met so DIFOT (delivered in full on time) can be met.

  • Provide active involvement in improvement projects
  • Maintain high levels of housekeeping standards through the introduction and maintenance of site 5s.
  • Purchasing Consumables and ensuring that consumption is maintained within budgetary guidelines.
  • In liaison with other warehouse staff, assist accuracy of inventory through stock cycle counting and stock-taking to achieve greater than KPI inventory accuracy.
  • Proactively maintain pick, pack and despatch plant and equipment, reporting and requesting services as required
  • Ensure all Pick, Pack and Load procedures and work instructions are periodically reviewed and updated with department staff trained to standard

Distribution Operations

  • Accountable for pick, pack and load shift operations providing direct support to the Despatch teams

  • Ensure safe, efficient and accurate operations to deliver the service delivery KPIs of PIFOT and DIFOT
  • Responsible for the safe, efficient and effective resource planning for the shift operation
  • Provide support for the load distribution and route planning for the Despatch teams, including the use of technologies including but not limited to DMS systems
  • Ensure all manifests are timely and accurate for Customer Service staff access.
  • Support the Despatch requirements for alternative distribution resources such as Taxi trucks or couriers in conjunction with the Despatch team.
  • Ensure that Load checks are maintained on company and sub-contract trucks to ensure accurate deliveries and foster tight security against theft and damage to company goods.
  • Assist in the preparation of capital expenditure requests for replacement / new distribution equipment.

People Management / Supervision

  • Leadership and management of the Warehouse Afternoon Shift team to enable them to meet / exceed their KPI’s with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Roster full time and temporary staff to meet operational requirements
  • Ensure standards are met with regards to company policies including OH&S, EEO, Industrial Agreements, Discrimination, Harassment and Disciplinary procedures
  • Lead, participate and provide support for recruitment of staff
  • Responsibility for team learning & development including inductions, on-boarding, coaching and mentoring, including implementation of internal Learning & Development plans.
  • Actively support and coach employees in continuous improvement initiatives and projects whilst sharing business performance information with regards to safety and operational performance against business goals
  • Responsibility for team compliance, inclusive of licenses, competency checks and all other requirements as per the EBA.  This includes the management and assessment of warehouse EBA classifications and competence.

Risk Management

  • Ensure all plants and equipment is maintained in serviceable condition through pre- start checklists, random quality checks and routine equipment maintenance schedules.
  • Actively promote and support a culture of hazard identification and rectifications through company risk management processes
  • Ensure compliance with legislated Chain of Responsibility requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Certificate

  • Competent use of Microsoft Office Applications

  • Knowledge of business planning systems (manufacturing, distribution, retailing) showing exposure and usage of automated/semi-automated stock replenishment/management

Experience:

  • 2-5 years’ management / co-ordination / coaching of warehousing / logistics personnel and operations in a medium to large warehouse
  • Ability to identify continuous improvement projects for the warehouse operations, make proposals and implement agreed improvement plans
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Previous experience in managing OH&S responsibilities
  • Flexible (can do) work approach
  • Good negotiation, presentation and customer service skills
  • Competent understanding of inventory control techniques
  • Good understanding of time-slotting processes and technologies
  • Commercial acumen & analytical skills (ability to identify trends, develop KPIs & action plans)
  • Superior understanding of external Freight processes and systems
