About the role

The Master/Engineer role is a part-time position with the plan to become a full-time position. The vessel is a large ROPAX catamaran based at Whyte Island in Brisbane servicing Moreton Island.

Master Responsibilities

• Overall management and safety of the vessel, crew and passengers 
• Ensuring that all survey requirements are satisfied,
• Reporting & logging all incidents 
• Organizing and carrying-out maintenance to hull (interior & exterior), engines and equipment 
• Ensuring that the vessel is kept in a clean and professional state at all times
• Leading crew members in observing the company's policies and procedures and safety management system. 
• Keeping all personal & vessel qualifications up-to-date
• Complying with safety requirements 
• Management of the vessels cleaning
• Keeping service and maintenance up-to-date and logged
• Completing daily log book
• Other duties that arise

Skills and experience

• Must hold a minimum Master <35m NC qualification & MED 1 qualification, MED 2 applicants with a strong engineering knowledge will be considered.
• Masters with landing craft experience will be preferred, although not essential to the appropriate candidates.
• Able to obtain a Pilotage exemption for the area.
• Leadership & excellent communication skills.
• Confident and polite with cheerful customer service manner.
• Excellent attention to detail.
• Commitment to timely follow-up.
• Strong problem-solving skills and shows initiative.
• Must be reliable and punctual.
• Hardworking both independently and as a team member
• Computer skills including: computer based planned maintenance systems, word processing, excel. 
• Have diesel engine service and maintenance knowledge.
• Must be competent in handling the vessel in all weather conditions.
• Have up to date first aid and CPR.
