An exciting opportunity has become available for a Logistics Services Manager for our Laverton site with Emergent Cold Pty Ltd.

Emergent Cold has established its initial presence in Australia and Asia through the acquisition of Swire Cold Storage Australia and Vietnam in December 2017.  Emergent Cold is led by an experienced US based executive team with the Australasian head-quarters based in Melbourne.

This role will report into the Logistics Services Manager – SA/VIC and will be responsible for managing the operation to meet customer requirements whilst having a focus on safety, customer service, financial and data analysis and effective leadership.    

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Lead site safety initiatives and be a visible safety champion and ensuring Company safety policies and procedures are adhered to
  • Provide visible leadership by means of positive interaction, regular communication activities and establishing and reinforcing clear expectations
  • Manage the operation within agreed contractual parameters to deliver quality customer service, ensuring team members adhere to Company policies and procedures
  • Ensure agreed customer service levels are met on a consistent basis and regularly review and take corrective actions to address any issues
  • Monitor and measure financial outcomes and productivity against targets, and identify and implement corrective actions to address any gaps. 
  • Formulate and set budget targets and parameters through the budget process and subsequently have accountability for P&L
  • Ensure appropriate organisation structure is in place on anticipated future requirements and potential growth
  • Develop and implement succession planning to provide an environment for developing and motivating others and building effective teams. 
  • Ensure all staff are trained to operate all machinery/equipment and understand the warehouse work systems
  • Provide training and development opportunities to employees through cross-training, delegation of work and exposure to higher level activities
  • Contribute to the senior management team by assisting with development of strategies and ways of operating to drive national standards and consistency
  • Ensure that the operation operates within the appropriate Australian cold chain codes, HACCP, AQIS and Approved Arrangement guidelines whilst also ensuring COR compliance
  • Timely completion of monthly operations reports and other financial reports as required
  • Seek out opportunities for  continuous improvement with a focus on cost reduction

The successful Leader for our operation will have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Logistics Management or a business discipline is desired
  • 5 years plus leadership experience in a similar role, within the logistics and transport industry, preferably 3PL
  • Experience in developing and implementing financial budgets, targets and reporting
  • Experience in working within regulatory frameworks
  • A strong understanding of profit and loss
  • A strong understanding and implementation of safety procedures, regulatory requirements and standards
  • Strong warehouse management systems and PC (Microsoft Office) literate
  • The ability to contribute and implement/manage business plans
  • Proven history of cost control and improvement
  • A strong understanding of manual handling equipment and traffic management/operation requirements
  • The ability to deal with and communicate effectively with customers
  • Motivation and be self-driven with a proactive approach
  • Strong problem solving, communication and customer service skills with the ability to work under pressure
  • A flexible approach as out of hours support may be required from time to time
  • Good attention to detail, have excellent stakeholder management skills and be a personal individual
