Our client, a niche global manufacturer of aviation refuelling equipment is a key player in both the Australian and international market. They require a Senior Purchasing/Procurement Officer to join their team in the Western suburbs of Melbourne on a Full-Time Basis.

Description

The Senior Purchasing Officer supports the manufacturing division, ensuring the execution of cost efficient functions/processes and that timely customer deliverables/targets are met. With strong relationship and communication skills, this function liaises with both internal and external suppliers/customers. Reporting into the Operations Manager, this role aligns with this operations function to ensure the highest level of support at all times, whilst driving continual improvement and efficiencies.

The role will require you to:

• Focus on efficiency improvements, waste reduction and the implementation/streamlining of processes
• Have an understanding of the Total Cost of Manufacturing, preferably with prior exposure to Kanban methodologies, DIFOT and other continual improvement/lean principles
• Maintain, input, process and review the BOM’s
• Build new relationships by working with existing and new supplier contacts to review, negotiate and present the most cost effective solutions for the company (including contract negotiation)
• Order materials and supplies from local and international suppliers; maintaining the inventory material costs and reflecting accurately on the ERP system
• Adhere to quality processes (ISO9001 system) and advising suppliers of non-conformances whilst ensuring this will not be an impact to the production department
• Forecast in accordance with purchase requirements and ensuring accurate cash-flow requirements with internal accounts department
• Be competent in the use of computer skills, in particular Microsoft Office suite
• Possess strong interpersonal skills with the ability to form and develop new relationships with both internal and external stakeholders
• Adhere to all relevant policies and procedures covering safety, quality, confidentiality and waste management areas

Profile

The successful applicant will have:

• Prior experience in a Purchasing/Procurement function- 5 + years experience
• Prior exposure within a manufacturing environment, importantly with the ability to understand the Total Cost of Manufacturing
• High level of computer skills- Microsoft Office Suite in particular
• Strong interpersonal relationship and communication skills
• An attention to detail with an ability to work under pressure ensuring you achieve tight time schedules
• Negotiation skills
