Yusen Logistics is a world-leading total supply chain and logistics solutions provider with over 130 years of history. Kaizen and Business Improvement are important aspects of the Yusen Logistics operations across its 15 locations in Australia and New Zealand.

We are seeking a Kaizen Trainee to join our Horsley Park Operations. This is a great opportunity to leverage your studies and commercial experience in continuous improvement/lean management/Kaizen principles to develop your career in a global business. The Kaizen Trainee work with the Kaizen Manager to develop, promote and encourage the application of Kaizen principles and continuous improvement, innovation and the implementation of Kaizen principles across the business to provide process simplification, and better efficiency, productivity and profitability. This role will also provide administrative support, reporting and other ad-hoc tasks for the department.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Assist in conducting root cause analysis to determine metrics, troubleshoot operational/business process issues, project plans, operational capacity, facility design and create process documentation
  • Carry out data collection and analysis for process mapping, develop budgets and cost analysis to determine project/contract feasibility
  • Provide support during Kaizen improvement journey by providing scoping and  “As is” Study
  • Assist in conducting compliance audits, project evaluations and reviews to drive results which ensure change is maintained
  • Assist in establishing quantifiable cost saving programs, productivity improvement initiatives and/or methodology
  • Undertake process audit activities, review and document findings, and present to the Kaizen Manager and team members
  • Assist the Operations team in preparing for internal and external audits (customer, quality)
  • Provide visibility, documentation and reporting required by the department and business stakeholders, including statistics on Kaizen sheets produced, cost savings generated, and productivity gained, and performance against KPIs
  • Adhere to the Yusen Logistics Code of Conduct, and report any incidents or breaches of the Code to the relevant company contacts

Skills, Experience, Knowledge required:

  • Tertiary qualifications or a commensurate level of experience and education in a relevant field
  • Senior high school certificate or equivalent (pre-requisite)
  • Experience with Kaizen, Lean Management, and/or Six Sigma practices coupled with experience within a Logistics/Warehouse environment would be preferred
  • Qualification in Level 4 Front Line Management is preferred
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to juggle multiple tasks
  • Strong communication skills (verbal & written), with the ability to present confidently and effectively to diverse audiences at various levels of the organisation
  • Highly self-motivated with the ability to work effectively as part of a team effort or autonomously
  • Experience with the full Microsoft Office suite
