About this job

Keolis Downer is the proud operator of Yarra Trams, the oldest and largest light rail network in the world. Since 2009, Keolis Downer has significantly invested in Melbourne’s tram network and community. In September last year, the Victorian Government has awarded Keolis Downer the contract to run Yarra Trams until at least 2024. This is an exciting time for the team at Yarra Trams as we begin delivery of our new franchise term.

In the next seven years we will continue to bring our international expertise to Melbourne to ensure we continue to deliver even better, safer, more reliable passenger services and performance, while increasing the value of the tram network for Melburnians and the thousands of visitors to our city every day.

To deliver on these exciting new challenges, Yarra Trams requires the services of an experienced Supply Chain Manager.

What the role entails

Keolis Downer is accountable for the asset management of the Yarra Trams network consisting of more than 480 trams, 500km of track and overhead together with the supporting information technology and control systems.  Our supply chain management functions are based in Melbourne, at two strategic locations, where inventory is purchased, receipted and issued for maintenance and project activities in the Infrastructure, Rolling Stock (Trams) and ICT domains.   With an annual expenditure of approximately $200m on maintenance and renewal activity, the Supply Chain function is a critical driver of performance for the Asset Performance division. The role involves:

  • Collaborating with the Commercial Division, developing and implementing a Supply Chain model with one common supply chain information system across the entire organisation.
  • Managing the relationship with, and performance of, the specialist supply chain service provider under a subcontracting arrangement.
  • Improving the use of business intelligence tools to support demand and materials planning.
  • Establishing the performance standards against which our Supply Chain performance will be delivered and governed.
  • Establishing and optimising the management of outsourced services in support of the Asset Performance function, through the successful integration of a vendor management model.
  • Managing both internal and external stakeholder engagement, and reporting requirements, in order to enhance and leverage Keolis Downer supply chain business intelligence.
  • Accountability for the safety, health and welfare of all employees and contractors in – and members of the public impacted by – the function.

What you will need for this role

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Extensive experience in supply chain, asset management or similar.
  • Tangible record of significant commercial achievements and change management within a diverse organisation operating in a dynamic business environment.
  • Strong leadership, strategic planning and business skills.
  • Excellent communication and persuasive skills to ensure the creation and maintenance of effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including at the most senior levels within Government, and within the transport industry more broadly.
  • Experience with delivering critical supply chain outcomes for multiple asset classes in line with international standards.
  • Experience in managing large resource budgets with a focus on driving value for money.
  • Understanding and awareness of relevant regulatory frameworks, including those pertaining to equal opportunity and workplace health and safety, and the Fair Work Act 2009.

Applications close: 25th July 2018
