Job tasks and responsibilities
We are currently recruiting 2 experienced Commercial Pastry Cake Decorators to finish and decorate cakes, tortes and gateaux's using different hand finishing techniques and decorating, with the ability to create a beautiful and creative masterpiece.
This opportunity is during our day shift: Tuesday to Friday 6:00 – 16:00
Reporting to the Shift Supervisor, at our Altona site, part of the decorating team.
Specific duties include, but are not limited to:
- Finish and decorate cakes, tortes and gateaux using different icings, toppings etc.
- Check equipment to ensure that it meets health and safety regulations and perform maintenance or cleaning, as necessary.
- Apply protective or decorative finishes to workpieces or products.
- Combine fillings and bases to assemble gateaux, tortes and cakes as required for product type
- Check assembly for gateaux, tortes and cakes to identify faults and rectify
- Apply finishes to gateaux, tortes and cakes as required for product type
- Apply garnishes to finish gateaux, tortes and entremets as required for product type
- Prepare and transfer finished gateaux, tortes and cakes for presentation and storage according to packaging and food safety requirements
- Decorate cakes using different piping techniques
- Comply with all company policies, external authority's standards and legislation relating to environmental, OH&S, fire, ethical and risk control standards
Skills and experience
The Requirements
- Proven experience as a Pastry Chef, baker, cake finishing/decoration or relevant role.
- In depth knowledge of sanitation principles, food preparation and baking techniques and nutrition
- Certificate in culinary arts, cake decorating, baking or relevant industry experience
- One to three years of previous bakery experience preferred
- Experience in a fast manufacturing environment and automated baking line
- Good understanding of GMP and Food Safety
- Mechanical aptitude
- Comfortable doing accurate paperwork
