Established in 1971, NSS provides end to end stevedoring, transport and logistics services for ocean going cargoes in regional Queensland and we remain focused on setting the benchmark for the delivery of solutions and innovation.
We have an opportunity available for a Shift Manager to join our team in Townsville. Reporting to the Stevedoring Superintendent, this role is primarily responsible for work flow continuity and managing the safe and efficient loading and unloading of vessels thereby minimising the vessel(s) time in port.
Some of the main job duties will include, but are not limited to:
- Lead the compliance of HSEQ requirements while on shift.
- Manage behaviour and hazards while on shift to facilitate the ‘no substitute for safety’ philosophy.
- Manage and report on non-conformances and incidents.
- Ensure that all employees work within the framework of the enterprise agreement.
- Ensure that tool boxes are completed at the commencement of each shift and/or during the shift where necessary.
- Contribute to financial responsibility through identification of cost saving measures and effective utilisation of resources.
- Deliver outputs required by customers and NSS on time and to expectations by:
- Managing stevedores and equipment to ensure operational efficiency.
- Implementation of changes and improvements to increase the quality and efficiency of operations.
- Anticipate any potential issues and put contingency plans in place to minimise disruptions to operations.
- Adjust plans where necessary within guidelines set by the Ship Planner.
- Liaise professionally with customers, shipping agents and chief officers to promote NSS in a positive manner.
- Provide effective leadership to all employees.
- Enforce Maritime Safety/LRZ/Customs legislative requirements.
- Provide productivity reports on the completion of each shift.
To be considered for this role you must fit the below criteria:
- Demonstrate commitment to NSS’s values of ethical behaviour, focus on customers, focus on people and commitment to excellence.
- Possess a current manual Australian Drivers Licence and MSIC.
- Detailed knowledge and understanding of stevedoring operations.
- Previous supervisory experience in a similar role.
- Ability to work autonomously with a flexible roster.
- Well-developed interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
- Intermediate to advanced computer skills in Microsoft office applications including Word and Excel.
- Excellent planning and organisational skills.
