About The Role

As Production Manager you will be required to coordinate the manufacturing and assembly of meat processing equipment. You will have a manufacturing background and have experience in all aspects of a manufacturing workshop. You will display a strong engineering background and have good people management skills.

Reporting to the Manufacturing Manager you will ensure set production schedules and product quality standards are met. You will deliver these results through the management of employees, materials and processes and meet agreed outputs in terms of quality, cost, delivery, safety and motivation for the site.

Role Requirements

To be successful in this position you will be responsible for but not limited to the following:

Production

  • Optimise production performance and processes and identify, implement and drive continuous improvement opportunities
  • Facilitate all production meetings and report on progress
  • Prioritize work flow according to production schedule
  • Manage the supply of internally manufactured parts and subassemblies
  • Evaluate any shortfall in supply of parts for production and implement plan to rectify in timely manner
  • Interact between departments to ensure a high degree of quality and efficiency

Process Improvement

  • Identify areas of improvement in the manufacturing process to reduce costs and improve efficiencies
  • Provide information regarding production times and quantities to Manufacturing Manager to assist in the measuring of efficiencies and process improvements

Management

  • To provide support to the Manufacturing Manager
  • Provide feedback to the Manufacturing Manager on staff behaviour, progress, issues and achievements to assist in evaluations.
  • Ensure employees are clocked on to correct jobs
  • Manage production cycle to maximise efficiency, profitability and on-time delivery and minimise downtime and waste
  • Ensure job sheets are completed and processed for data collection
  • Report all progress and potential issues to the Manufacturing Manager

Quality Assurance

  • Be actively involved in the QA process of all purchased and manufactured components
  • Ensure QA procedures are complete and adhered to
  • Encourage identification of drawing issues, corrections and adjustments to be presented to engineering for review

Training

  • Provide training as required and monitor progress of fellow staff members to increase skill levels and efficiencies
  • Participate in training supplied by both internal and external providers to improve management skills / product knowledge / system changes

The successful candidate will ideally possess the following skills and attributes:

  • Proficient and confident in all aspects of workshop activities
  • Experienced in the use / application of lean principles
  • Strong engineering background and skillset
  • Trade qualified preferably in Fitting / Turning
  • Good people management skills with the ability to consider other opinions and ideas
  • Knowledge of MRP systems, Excel and Word and be able to generate reports
  • Self-starter and be able to work well in a team environment
  • High attention to detail and quality and take pride in their work
  • Motivated, enthusiastic, professional attitude with a high work ethic
  • Able to demonstrate initiative
  • Understand and demonstrate safe working methodology and practises
  • Own transport to ensure reliability and punctuality
  • Must be an Australian resident
  • Valid forklift license preferable but not essential
