We are recruiting for a Customs Broker to join our team based in Moorebank on a part time basis. The successful applicant will be responsible for the shipment of imported or exported goods ensuring that the items meet all the regulations, laws, packing, and other requirements that are mandated by law. You must also be certain that all taxes, fees, documentation, and other needs have been completed. 

Key responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining the day to day customs clearance functions and processes in line with company performance expectations, standards and KPIs
  • Ensuring compliance with ABF, AQIS and other government agencies
  • Participation in regular internal audits and associated reporting
  • Reconciliation of job financial reports and month-end processes
  • Prepare customs documentation and ensure that shipments meet all applicable laws to facilitate the import and export of goods
  • Determine and track duties and taxes payable and process payments on behalf of client
  • Represent clients in meetings with customs officials and apply for duty refunds and tariff reclassifications
  • Coordinate transportation and storage of imported goods
  • Attending to client enquiries relating to tariff classification of goods, rates of duty, tariff concession orders, methods of valuation and origin requirements of the Customs Act
  • Keep up to date with current customs and AQIS industry changes and trends
  • Applying for tariff concessions including preparing refund/duty drawbacks
  • Liaising and supporting internal stakeholders to ensure quality customer experiences are maintained

The successful candidate will possess:

  • Tertiary qualifications in International Freight Forwarding or Logistics is preferred; alternatively a commensurate level of education, training and commercial experience
  • Customs brokerage licence maintained and kept for such period of time while employed by Yusen Logistics Australia, Quarantine certification and upkeep of training courses available to the industry.
  • 5 years’ experience as a licenced customs broker with an Australian Customs Broker licence and previous customs brokerage experience
  • EDI/Cargowise and/or ICS experience is essential 
  • Must have knowledge of customs tariffs; import, export and taxation regulations
  • Strong relationship and rapport building skills
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders at levels of the organisation  
  • Strong customer focus, negotiation and influencing skills
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to work effectively in an autonomous function and a team
