Kartaway is a leading Waste Management Company with operations across Australia offering a diverse range of waste management solutions from waste recycling and transport to Transfer Station management.

The Position…

Reporting to the Director of National Operations, you will be responsible for the co-ordination, maintenance and control of the company’s operating equipment.  Taking a hands-on approach, you will be responsible for ensuring adherence to the company’s maintenance policies, procedures and required implementations to ensure all equipment is operating at optimum levels at all times.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Planning and control of the workshop operations nationally, ensuring operational efficiency’s and productivity is sustained at a high level at all times.
  • Ensuring all maintenance repairs meet or exceed company standards.
  • Liaise with company contractors and all levels of staff.
  • Ensure all heavy equipment and vehicles are maintained and working in an efficient and effective manner including: vehicles, trucks, hoists, compactors, excavators and backhoes.
  • Regular interstate travel.
  • Ensuring compliance with OH&S policies and legislation.
  • Management of direct subordinates.
  • Working closely with the State Managers to recommend and assist in the preparation of CAPEX submissions.
  • Maintenance of the MEX system  

To be successful in this role the incumbent will be expected to operate with a high degree of autonomy on a number of tasks and projects.

The Maintenance Manager will be required to be flexible in their work practices and be able to juggle a number of conflicting priorities to ensure the smooth operation of the company’s national maintenance programs and resources.

Essential Criteria

To be successful in this position you will have;

  • Demonstrated experience in transport management with strong operational experience,
  • ‘Hands on’ people management experience in a service delivery environment where safety, quality and operational efficiency are crucial to a best practice,
  • Have solid management, planning and organisational skills,
  • Demonstrated ability to negotiate with suppliers and contractors,
  • The ability to develop and maintain highly effective working relationships
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and coaching others,
  • Well developed communication skills, both written and verbal,
  • Experience in managing budgets, and
  • The ability to plan and implement solutions decisively.
