About the role:
 
Lithgow small arms facility designs, develops and manufactures a range of small arms for the civilian and military market place.

Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, this role is responsible for providing mechanical repair, maintenance and responding to breakdown and preventative maintenance requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responding to mechanical maintenance needs, communicating closely with the Maintenance Manager to ensure that priorities are understood and worked to and that progress is communicated effectively
  • Provide general guidance in work practices and behaviours to less experienced Technicians
  • Using problem solving skills, establish and enact the best solution to the requirement, within the scope of skill and experience
  • Identifying necessary replacement parts and source, manufacture or repair as appropriate
  • Developing ‘scope of work’ information necessary to produce contracts for mechanical repair, maintenance and installation, where required
  • Assisting in the management of Contractors where required
  • Communicating progress of your tasks to internal customers/suppliers directly and via the Maintenance Manager
  • Ensuring safety and functionality of equipment before recommission/hand over
  • Complying with and ensure compliance of all relevant Occupational Health, Safety and Environmental legislative requirements, policies, procedures and frameworks with the intent of preventing or minimising accidental exposures to self, colleagues, visitors and/or the environment.
  • Actively and effectively participate in Continuous Improvement and LEAN initiatives, including Preventative Maintenance, in the activities conducted by your work group and by applying these principles in your maintenance activities

Key Skills and Experience:

  • Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical Trade or equivalent
  • Proven experience in fault finding, repair and maintenance of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Previous experience in fault finding, repair and maintenance of CNC machine tools would be advantageous
  • Ability to identify, assess and manage risks with minimal supervision.
  • The ability to provide mature guidance of less experienced technicians and apprentices

Special Requirements:

You must be able to obtain an Australian Security Clearance and access information covered by the International Traffic in Arms Regulations.

A police check and medical are required for this role.
