The integrated mining and processing complex at Phosphate Hill and Mt Isa produces one million tonnes of high analysis fertiliser per annum. The facilities process phosphate rock mined from the Phosphate Hill resource with the production of ammonia from natural gas and sulphuric acid from copper smelter gases to manufacture phosphoric acid and high analysis ammonium phosphate fertiliser for domestic and export markets.

The Role

Reporting to the Production Superintendent, you will be responsible for providing leadership and supervision to a team of Material Handling Technicians to help meet production volumes and targets are met in a safe manner.

• Assist with the execution and auditing of strategies to ensure plant is reliable, compliant and safe,
• To implement day to day Material Handling logistics services for outward Ammonium Phosphate fertilizer and inward receipt of Sulphuric Acid, Bulk and Raw Transport,
• Provide support, coaching and leadership to all Technicians,
• Manage shift resources and communicate objectives to employees in order to achieve department budget and target.
• Provide input into the establishment of new and the review of existing production procedures.
• Foster continuous improvement by leading the BEX processes for their Process Team and coaching the completion of the development goals for their teams.

A results-driven and quality-focused team player with excellent supervisory and leadership skills, you are capable of building strong professional relationships.

This role will see you incorporate BEx (Lean manufacturing) methodology into areas for operating discipline, as well as actively promote and drive continuous improvement initiatives. Lean experience is not required for this aspect, however, a willingness to engage in and champion the BEx process, and learn by doing is essential to your success.

Ideally you will be a self-starter, comfortable with a large degree of autonomy and possess a proven background working within a leadership role within a complex matrix organisation. Experience within a Chemical, Oil & Gas, Sugar, Power Generation or other heavy continuous process plants will be highly regarded.

Prerequisites

• Cert III in Mechanical Maintenance or Trade background
• Knowledge and background in operations, logistics, SHE, cost management in a similar role in the chemical / mineral processing industry or heavy engineering
• Solid leadership experience in a similar industry
• Chemical plant and Mining operation, particularly Phosphate Hill Operation of plant equipment & process. (e.g. Train load out operations, acid unloading facilities desirable)
• SAP capability and computer literacy in Microsoft Office products.
• Mobile plant ticketed (Forklift, EWP, Bobcat) desirable
• Dogging and Rigging Certification desirable
