About the role 

One of Australia’s largest mines and a complex minerals processing operation, Olympic Dam, is unique in that we produce Copper, Uranium, Gold and Silver. We are excited to announce the opportunity for a Specialist Program Analyst role that will be responsible for supporting growth, sustaining and improvement projects for BHP’s Olympic Dam assets in Australia. Reporting to the Head of Program Integration, this position will work with multiple study and project delivery groups to integrate and monitor the delivery of our Olympic Dam project portfolio with a total investment value of over US$ 1 billion.  


Your commitment and work of your teams will have a significant impact on projects that shape our business, unlocking value of our low cost, long life resources. You will form a range of relationships across the business, including marketing, market analysis, investment evaluation, projects and operations.   


In this role you will:

  • Support our program integration capability; supporting projects and unlocking opportunities that contribute to our growth, sustaining and improvement pipeline.
  • Engage effectively with senior executives and other key project stakeholders as well as articulate clear recommendations to facilitate effective decision making.
  • Integrate multiple initiatives and/or projects and provide real visibility to the senior executives on how growth programs are tracking to business objectives.
  • Critically analyse and review functional input from technical and commercial streams and synthesized into high quality reports and presentations for senior executive consumption.
  • Actively assist in managing shortcomings by identifying and scoping mitigation projects and deliberately manage the change by assigning accountability for delivery.   
  • Demonstrate strong organisational skills, the ability to work at a high tempo as well as manage multiple tasks and support a number of initiatives simultaneously.


About you

You will take pride in developing strategic options that enhance BHP’s value. Advanced problem framing and solving skills are essential. 


Success in this role will require strong communication and influencing skills, including an ability to produce high quality and concise written reports and presentations for delivery to senior executives. Clear articulation of your recommendations, supported by high quality analysis, 
will be essential.


  • You will be degree qualified in a commerce, finance or mining related technical discipline. Further post graduate studies in finance or management (e.g. MBA) are advantageous but not mandatory.
  • You have superior interpersonal skills able to manage conflict and bad news with integrity. You have the capacity to work with and lead a broad set of stakeholders (both internal or external; technical, operational and functional). 
  • You will be a flexible, resourceful and collaborative problem-solver, and have the ability to deal with complex issues distilling out key recommendations.
  • You have outstanding written and verbal communication skills providing you with an ability to communicate key issues with senior executives allowing you to influence and gain business alignment without having formal authority.
  • You have commercial and business acumen supported by good analytical skills allowing you to achieve constructive outcomes in discussions, while challenging traditional assumptions.
