Associate / Principal Social Performance Consultant

To meet our existing and future business demands, our company is recruiting an experienced social assessment specialist to join our expanding team of professionals. The position offers tremendous scope for an ambitious professional to join our enthusiastic team and to lead and grow our social performance services.

Job Tasks and Responsibilities:

The role is to deliver social impact assessments and related activities to align with necessary standards and guidelines and to provide our clients with sound guidance on social performance. The tasks include:

  • Leading and/or directing social impact assessments, social management plans being undertaken by the social performance team and associated specialists.
  • Authoring and/or reviewer technical reports (e.g., environmental, social (and health) impact assessments, environment and social management plans and similar).
  • Liaising with varied stakeholders, including clients, government agencies, specialist subconsultants, communities, special interest groups/NGOs, the public and other parties as required by project activities.
  • Leading and/or coordinating social performance business development, including growing our capabilities and services.

The position requires an experienced social assessment practitioner who is familiar with and has experience in conducting social baseline surveys, sometimes in remote locations, and including training and overseeing supporting local/indigenous survey teams.

Necessary Skills and Expertise:

Preference will be given to candidates who have:

  • Tertiary qualification and expertise in social impact assessment and/or related areas of social performance practice (e.g., stakeholder engagement planning and implementation, qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis, land acquisition and resettlement/livelihood restoration planning and implementation, social due diligence).
  • At least 10 years of relevant experience working for: private sector clients / government / social performance organisations / international lending financial institutions.
  • Understanding and practical application of the latest international social performance standards and methods in the design and implementation of social impact assessment, social monitoring and management plans, and community/stakeholder engagement plans.
  • Relevant professional experience in Australia and Oceania, preferably in Papua New Guinea.
  • Familiarity and/or experience with extractive industries (i.e., mining, oil and gas, energy) and infrastructure sectors.
  • Flexibility and ability to occasionally work outside of normal business hours as well as a willingness to work from and/or travel to varying locations, including international and remote destinations.
