The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) works in partnership with 15 National Boards to implement the national regulatory scheme for health professionals. The purpose of health practitioner regulation is to protect the public by ensuring that only health practitioners who have the skills, qualifications and knowledge to provide safe care are registered.

AHPRA requires the services of a Senior Analyst with high level statistical and data management skills to work within AHPRA’s Research Unit. The Senior Analyst will play a fundamental role in assuring the program of research and analysis conducted by the unit provides a sound empirical basis for regulation of health professionals. The position has the potential to evolve into a managerial role which may involve direct management responsibility for technical staff.

 In this role you will:

  • Provide expert methodological advice on the design of analytical projects and provide statistical services relating to sampling, survey design, and quality assurance of outputs
  • Identify high priority areas for analysis and lead the delivery of analytical projects and outputs to support regulatory policy development and decision-making
  • Extract, manipulate and analyse, assure quality and confidentiality of all data released for research and analysis
  • Develop clear protocols for research collaborations and partnerships to optimise data use for regulatory policy development and decision making
  • Prepare high quality technical research reports, discussion papers, briefs, minutes, and memos for a range of non-technical audiences as instructed by the Manager, Research and Evaluation

As the ideal candidate, you will demonstrate the following:

  • Tertiary qualification in statistics, mathematics, data analysis, data science, or a degree with a strong focus on research methods and data analysis, or equivalent demonstrated experience
  • Demonstrated experience in research using statistical analysis and thematic analysis principles, ideally within a health-capacity framework
  • Strong written communication skills including the demonstrated ability to concisely translate technical information for a diverse range of non-technical audiences
  • Demonstrate an understanding of how governments regulate in the public interest
  • Strong research, analytical, conceptual and problem-solving skills
