About the Role
Reporting directly to the Skunkworks Manager, the incumbent is responsible for building and managing the portfolio of opportunities from concept through to execution. By working closely with the team and with a keen interest in the digital innovation space, the role spots opportunities and develops plans to see them through to execution. The Commercial Strategist can clearly communicate ambiguous concepts and influence stakeholders to drive a culture of innovation.
Duties & responsibilities
- Highlight strategic and commercial opportunities for the business and develop plans to see them through to execution
- Provide input via fact-based findings to understand the potential value of opportunities
- Co-ordinate with other team members and relevant cross-functional teams to design trials and run trials to test innovative opportunities
- Encourage data-driven decision making in all areas of the business
- Produce strategic papers on innovative opportunities for senior management consideration
- Keep abreast of innovative technologies, strategies and business models to help build on the Skunkworks pipeline of commercial opportunities
Skills & experience
- Masters or Bachelor Degree in Business or relevant discipline with strong performance will be highly regarded
- Strong communication skills, particularly writing skills at senior management and Board level
- Experience in conducting business analysis with demonstrated commercial acumen
- Experience in the retail or digital sector is desirable but not necessary
- Demonstrated practical experience in taking business ideas, particularly digital/innovation- related, from concept to implementation
- Keen interest in innovation not limited to the retail sector
- Understanding of the eCommerce/online space highly desirable
- “Can do” attitude with a healthy disregard for the boundaries of what’s possible
