You will be supported by a team with extensive expertise in complex infrastructure projects.

About the role

You will have a minimum of 2 to 5 years' experience undertaking flora surveys for our Sydney office and you will have tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science, Ecology or related field.

This successful candidate will play a key role in undertaking biodiversity work in Sydney and regional NSW including large renewable energy projects and transport infrastructure projects.

You will have the opportunity to work with our other NGH Environmental offices across NSW. Biodiversity consulting and GIS mapping experience, as well as BAM training or accreditation, are highly desirable. 

You will use your knowledge of environmental legislation to provide clients with advice. You will work with discipline experts to minimise impacts and deliver projects. You will work alongside specialist sub consultants across a range of disciplines.

You will complete field work and be able to identify Plant Community Types (PCT's), prepare reports and contribute to the preparation of Biodiversity Development Assessment Reports (BDAR's) and other reports as required by the Biodiversity Assessment Methodology. You will also be able to liaise with clients, manage projects and assist with costing projects. You will use skills and ethics to deliver a high standard of work. You will use legislation, policy and science to justify your decisions. This pivotal role provides the core services of our company.

Main Duties

  • Plan and carry out flora field surveys, in accordance with relevant NSW survey guidelines
  • Prepare biodiversity assessments, management plans, offset strategies and plans
  • Undertake project ecology work
  • Maintain networks with experts and undertake research
  • Have a level of field competency that allows you to justify your decisions
  • Identify/provide practical solutions to mitigate environmental impacts
  • Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Assist in the provision of strategic environmental advice

Selection Criteria

  • Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science, Ecology or related field
  • Demonstrated experience in flora identification and vegetation typing in the Sydney Region and NSW (2 to 5 years)
  • Knowledge of NSW and Federal environmental legislation and policy
  • Demonstrated experience with GIS
  • Excellent communication skills - verbal and written
  • Commitment to WHS participation and training
  • Drivers licence

Desirable criteria

  • Consulting experience (highly desirable)
  • Experience in the classification and identification of threatened flora species and communities within the ACT and NSW southern tablelands (highly desirable)
  • 4WD experience and/or training
  • Experience in fauna ecology
  • Experience in applying the NSW Biodiversity Assessment Methodology (highly desirable) or past experience in applying the NSW Framework for Biodiversity Assessments and/or BioBanking
