You will be supported by a team with extensive expertise in complex infrastructure projects.

About the role

You will have a minimum of 2 to 5 years' experience undertaking flora surveys for our Canberra office and you will have tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science, Ecology or related field.

This role will have a key role in biodiversity work undertaken in the South coast and Southern Tablelands region, including large renewable energy projects, road and rail infrastructure and land development.  You will have the opportunity to be involved in the work of our other NGH Environmental offices across NSW.

You will complete field work, prepare reports, liaise with clients and assist with costings of projects. You will use legislation, policy and science to justify your decisions. You will work with discipline experts and specialist sub-consultants to minimise impacts on the environment and deliver high quality assessments on time and budget. This pivotal role provides a core service of our company.

Survey techniques, such as Biodiversity Assessment Methodology Vegetation Integrity Plots, surveys according to the Interim Vegetation Type Standard and previous experience with BioBanking are highly desirable.

Previous consulting and GIS mapping experience are also highly desirable. 

Main Duties

  • Have a level of field competency specifically in botanical surveys
  • Plan and carry out flora field surveys, in accordance with relevant NSW survey guidelines
  • Prepare biodiversity assessments, management plans, offset strategies and plans
  • Assist in the provision of strategic environmental advice
  • Identify/provide practical solutions to mitigate environmental impacts
  • Maintain networks with experts and undertake research
  • Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team

Mandatory Selection Criteria

  • Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science, Ecology or related field
  • Demonstrated experience in current flora field survey techniques
  • Demonstrated experience in flora identification and vegetation typing (2 to 5 years) in NSW and/or ACT
  • Demonstrated experience in the classification and identification of threatened flora species and communities within the ACT and NSW southern tablelands
  • Knowledge of current NSW and/or ACT and Federal environmental legislation and policy as it relates to biodiversity
  • Excellent communication skills - verbal and written
  • Commitment to WHS participation and training
  • Drivers licence

Desirable Criteria

Experience in remote area survey work and consulting experience (highly desirable)

  • Demonstrated experience with GIS (highly desirable)
  • Previous experience in NSW Framework for Biodiversity Assessments and/or BioBanking (highly desirable)
  • 4WD experience and/or training
  • Experience in fauna ecology
