Come and be a part of this success.

About the role

BHP Billiton Mitsubishi Alliance (BMA) is Australia's largest coal producer, with seven operational mine sites and Hay Point, a coal loading port in Central Queensland.  As the world's largest seaborne coking coal supplier, BMA is uniquely poised to offer experience and career development opportunities difficult to find elsewhere.

Reporting to the Lead Rail & Port Access, based in Brisbane, this primary focus of this role is to monitor strategic supply chain developments, identify and develop opportunities to ensure logistics capability is secured in order to enable long term production and growth.

In this role you will:

  • Negotiate BMA's port and rail contracts and ensure contract approvals are obtained

  • Develop contracting and commercial strategies, initiate, negotiate and finalise supply chain agreements

  • Provide on-going commercial support on rail and port contracts to the Operational and Finance teams

  • Keep track of developments within supply chains, monitor and draw attention to logistics opportunities

  • Prepare regulatory submissions in relation to rail, port and associated infrastructure

  • Represent BMA in external industry forums

  • Provide input into long-term planning (Life of Asset, 5 year plan, 2 year budget )

  • Ensure that BMA’s long term logistics supply chain can deliver sufficient capacity to deliver the agreed BMA resource capability

  • Assist Integrated Operations with engagement with suppliers to address capacity issues and negotiate for improvement.

About you

With tertiary qualifications in Law, Commerce or similar, significant knowledge of the regulatory process and a strong understanding of port and rail logistics contracts, contract management, and cost models, the successful applicant will have excellent influencing and negotiation skills and be confident to present to and meet with various stakeholders and industry groups. They will also be self-motivated, driven, be able to work autonomously, have excellent writing and analytical skills and have great commercial acumen. A background in contracting, economics, strategy or legal will also be looked upon favourably.

This is an excellent opportunity for the successful applicant to consolidate their career with an organisation that places priority on safety, environmental awareness and the wellbeing of its employees.

Supporting a diverse workforce

At BHP, we recognise that we are strengthened by diversity. We are committed to providing a work environment in which everyone is included, treated fairly and with respect.  We are an Equal Opportunity employer and we encourage applications from women and Indigenous people.

We know there are many aspects of our employees’ lives that are important, and work is only one of these, so we offer benefits to enable your work to fit with your life.  These benefits include flexible working options; a generous paid parental leave policy; other extended leave entitlements and parent rooms.
