About the position:


The Development Planning Branch is responsible for implementing local planning instruments and associated policy frameworks in order to facilitate good quality development outcomes for the City of Ipswich and achieve Council’s vision for effective growth management.  The Development Planning Team is made up of a large group of diverse individuals who work as a team to deliver these outcomes.  Team work, honesty, a positive outlook and promoting good culture is pivotal to being part of this team.


The Principal Planner (Development) position specialises in complex development assessment projects and matters, preparation and execution of infrastructure agreements, appeals management, high level development negotiations and leadership and implementation of business improvement projects and initiatives.  The candidate will be required to project manage business improvement projects, complex development applications and a range of other work related to development assessment, compliance and Survey Plan processes. This reports directly to the Development Planning Manager. 


This individual will also form part of the leadership team of the Branch and will be expected to:

  • undertake work on a range of complex projects as part of a multi-disciplinary project team;
  • be project lead in a team or individually (with limited supervision);
  • be a mentor for other members in the branch; and
  • have the ability to step into a Team Coordinator role in other development assessment teams as necessary.

Motivation, creativity, a desire to continuously improve and the ability to work autonomously to meet project targets and timeframes are critical to the position.


About you:


The ideal candidate will possess a tertiary qualification in Town Planning or a related discipline and be eligible for membership of a relevant professional body.  You will have extensive knowledge, skills and experience in the fields of development assessment/statutory planning, planning coordination and/or land use planning and business analysis and improvement.  Extensive leadership skills are required together with highly developed interpersonal, consulting and negotiation skills.

This is a permanent full-time position with a salary range of $93,287 to $115,466 per annum, dependent upon skills and experience, plus a Council contribution to superannuation of up to 12%.
