About the Role

Deloitte Access Economics is Australia’s premier economic consultancy. We offer a suite of economic and policy advisory services to clients across government and the private and not-for-profit sectors, and pride ourselves on providing the highest caliber analysis and advice.

This team within Deloitte Access Economics provides analysis and advice to the most complex challenges and imperatives of the evolving transport and infrastructure landscape in Australia. We help our clients understand the relationship between transport and the economy; to this end we analyse transport projects, strategies and policy across road, rail, air, sea and pipelines.

Due to increasing demand, an opportunity has arisen for a Manager focusing on transport and infrastructure policy in our Sydney office. You will provide a range of services and be challenged on:

  • Driving transport and infrastructure related projects across a range of government and private sector clients
  • Applying a variety of analytical frameworks, models and techniques (e.g. cost-benefit analysis, demand forecasting, economic impact assessments, complex quantitative economic modelling, econometric analysis, geospatial analysis etc.)
  • Managing a small team to support the delivery of engagements and play a key role in their development


Your clients will include government departments; industry organisations and transport related companies in Australia, New Zealand and South East Asia.

Example Projects

  • We were commissioned by the Australasian Railway Association to quantify the current value of rail to the Australian economy and broader society, the research also explores the key challenges facing the industry
  • We analysed the role that Port of Newcastle could play in helping to manage the freight challenge in NSW
  • We examined the economic impact of the development of a Western Sydney Airport at Badgerys Creek on the Western Sydney and broader Sydney region


About You

You will have solid experience as a professional economist coupled with a deep understanding of Australia’s transport and infrastructure policy environment. You will bring, to our high-performing team at least some of the following attributes:

  • A degree in economics with strong academic results is required
  • Developing and using quantitative analytical frameworks using economic principles
  • Drafting policy/strategic advice to high profile clients
  • Managing projects and engaging stakeholders effectively
  • Persuasive communication and strong skills in report writing
  • Working knowledge of Australian transport data sources
  • Recent experience in a government agency or consultancy is desirable
