Reflecting Strategen’s reputation across our consulting services, we are looking to fill a bushfire consultant position to be based in either our Subiaco or Bunbury offices.  We are looking for an experienced bushfire management specialist to join our team.  This position will suit professional consultants who are confident and dynamic and are looking to advance their career. 

We would like to hear from you if you have:

  • A degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Earth Science or equivalent
  • Have Level 2 FPAA BPAD bushfire planning accreditation (although a Level 1 BPAD practitioner keen on working towards Level 2 accreditation may be considered)
  • Have between 2 to 5 years’ experience in in bushfire management planning.

What will you be doing? 

  • Conducting site inspections to assess classified vegetation and effective slope to produce BAL assessments, BAL contour maps and bushfire hazard level maps
  • Interpreting bushfire behaviour, bushfire risk and potential bushfire impact from site conditions
  • Provision of bushfire risk management and planning advice regarding compliance with State Planning Policy 3.7, Guidelines for Planning in Bushfire Prone Areas and the construction requirements of AS 3959 Construction of buildings in bushfire prone areas
  • Preparing BAL assessments, bushfire management plans, bushfire emergency evacuation plans and bushfire risk management plans to support planning applications in accordance with SPP 3.7 and Guideline requirements
  • Provision of advice regarding asset protection zones including consideration of landscaping strategies and environmental values
  • Conducting compliance certifications to clear planning approval conditions and undertaking BAL compliance reports to confirm BAL ratings following completion of subdivisional or development works
  • Managing projects including client interfacing, project risks, budgets, resourcing and deliverables
  • Pursue business development opportunities. 

Candidates must have:

  • Strong writing skills, particularly report writing
  • Effective verbal communication skills
  • Well-developed project management skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Enthusiasm and self-motivation
  • An interest in building networks and undertaking business development tasks
  • Very high standard of work quality 
  • Ability to work both independently or collaboratively across multi-disciplinary teams
