About the role

You will be part of a dynamic team that is responsible for driving the Sustainability agenda within Woolworths. You will lead the development and implementation Animal Welfare strategy and its execution for the Woolworths Supermarkets  providing technical guidance and advice to our teams. You will be responsible for partnering with internal teams and trading partners to drive the animal welfare agenda within Woolworths whilst maintaining fair and sustainable practises for our growers and farmers.  You will also measure, track and and support the reporting on our performance in your field.

About You

You are an outstanding thought leader in sustainable agriculture and animal welfare to deliver the right outcome for Woolworths and our customers. You are a collaborative influencer who can work with internal and external stakeholders to deliver commercial and customer focused change to drive our brand values is required.  You are professionally lead the establishment and delivery of commercially relevant strategy and policy and their execution across animal welfare.

  • Leading the establishment of Animal Welfare, policies and commitments in-line with Woolworths corporate responsibility strategy and commitments;

  • Leading the education of internal stakeholders in animal welfare and ensure policies and commitments have been adequately communicated & coordinating the Supermarkets animal welfare governance process;

  • Tracking the delivery of Supermarkets KPI’s for animal welfare commitments and takes action to drive compliance and continuous improvement

  • Building strong relationships between internal & external stakeholders, NGOs and Certification bodies including the RSPCA

  • Partnering with Policy and Regulation Team to develop and implement training on policies/procedures related animal welfare

If you have the following skills and experience we would love to hear from you:

  • Demonstrate leadership, knowledge and understanding of compliance requirements, standards and emerging issues regarding animal welfare;

  • Extensive animal welfare experience across meat, poultry, pork, lamb, dairy and eggs

  • Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to motivate peers, communicate with staff and engage with management

  • Experience in working with third party certifiers and implementing these certifications schemes into a business e.g. RSPCA;

  • Broad knowledge and experience of the retail/FMCG or QSR industry in executing animal welfare initiatives

  • Experience in developing and communicating animal welfare policies and procedures

  • Ability to horizon scan local and international market for consumer and competitive information to inform and ensure supermarket policies are appropriate and future proof

  • Strong ability to manage competing priorities and projects efficiently in a large organisation

  • A high attention to detail and analytical capability

  • Track record of managing  stakeholders at all levels

  • Ability to operate and adapt within a fast paced culture of change Industry network spanning NGO’s, farming and industry groups
