The Team & Role
GHD’s Sydney-based bushfire team specialises in bushfire policy and program evaluation; bushfire risk assessment and modelling; bushfire management planning for community, built asset and natural resource protection, and management of environmental values; bushfire planning and design services for development, high-consequence bushfire post-incident reviews, and best-practice/science reviews for all aspects of bushfire management. We work collaboratively with our private and public sector clients to guide prudent and effective land management decision-making, and to deliver practical and appropriate project solutions.
We are seeking a highly motivated senior bushfire/ land management consultant to join our high performing team.
The role is based in NSW however projects are undertaken widely around Australia. Bushfire consulting services are comprised of a variety of bushfire professional service tasks and responsibilities including but not limited to:
• Field based work, including assessment of bushfire risk and identification of appropriate measures to manage the risk;
• Undertaking stakeholder consultation and workshop facilitation activities as part of bushfire management planning and program or system reviews;
• Office-based work preparing project proposals, technical reports for clients, and preparing land/bushfire management plans
• Managing and delivering projects on time and within budget and to required quality standards
• Maintaining relationships with clients, regulatory agencies and other stakeholders
• Assisting in training of junior staff in bushfire management and NRM planning
About you
To be eligible for this position, you should have:
• Between 5-10 years consulting experience in bushfire management and/or land and biosecurity management
• Demonstrated experience in bushfire and land management
• Ability to undertake fieldwork in NSW and nationally as required
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Well-developed interpersonal skills: a strong team player who builds rapport with both internal and external stakeholders; communicates upwards and is receptive to technical review and guidance; and mentors less experienced team members
• A focus on client service excellence
• Ability and commitment to deliver high quality and technically robust project outcomes within efficient timeframes and budgets
• Ability to manage simultaneous projects, in geographically dispersed project teams, and when appropriate without close supervision
• Well-developed problem-solving skills, sound judgement and decisiveness
• A current NSW drivers licence
Desirable
• BPAD accreditation
Qualifications
• Tertiary qualifications in science or forestry/land management related discipline
