AO8 Manager Executive Support

  • Circa $74.32 P/H + 9.5% Superannuation

An excellent, and rare opportunity has become available for a Manager, Executive Support with one of the largest government departments. Based in Brisbane CBD, this role is to commence ASAP for 5 months with possible extension.

This role sits in the Strategy, Policy and Planning Division (SPPD) has been established to provide core system leadership by setting strategy and direction, developing and responding to high level policy matters, and undertaking planning across the wide-ranging activities of this department’s systems. The Division is accountable for collating, providing and ensuring the integrity of the health information that is required of the Department in its system leadership role.

The key roles and responsibilities for this position are:

To provide advice and support to Director and Deputy Director- General, Strategy Policy and Planning Division, in the management, coordination and resolution of critical policy and operational issues. The role will additionally lead and or undertake special projects as directed.

  • Fulfil the responsibilities of this role in accordance with the Department of Health’s core values as outlined above.
  • Provide senior level input to the daily operations of Office of the Deputy Director-General, and the broader division, including the management of interpersonal interactions, processes and operational activities.
  • Maintain an effective liaison role with senior Departmental officers, Strategy, Policy and Planning Executive Directors and Senior Directors and key external stakeholders. Actively participate in the provision of whole-of-division responses to issues that require integrated and consistent information to be sourced and collated.
  • Ensure the effectiveness of the Divisional responses to issues of a highly contentious or politically sensitive nature, , and enable input from a range of sources in relation to issues management.
  • Lead and manage the quality and timeliness of Information provided to the Deputy Director-General, Strategy Policy and Planning Division including briefings, submissions and correspondence.
  • Lead, and manage capability and resource development of the divisional Governance function
  • Coordinate the provision of authoritive, expert advice to senior management and branch leads and other key stakeholders on Governance related matters.
  • Prepare timely and relevant written briefs, presentation and information papers for stakeholders on strategic issues.

Requirements for the role:

  • Previous experience in managing multiple high priority hot issue tasks at the same time
  • Has a sense of working in a complex and large government department - so understands some of the connections around workflows to and from Ministers and DG’s offices and the process for cabinet briefings and correspondence.
  • Can work with different people across different levels - from DDG to Administrative Officers
  • A self-starter with the ability to be flexible, run with new and existing work autonomously
  • Can facilitate key deliverables through the DDG’s office by working with the various teams to understand issues and assist in risk mitigation
  • Work closely with and build relationships with members of the DG’s office as well as the Division
  • Support the Director and the DDG
