We are currently seeking an innovative Principal Improvement to join our Coal Improvement team. This is a full time role supported by a leader who is passionate about flexible working arrangements.  In this role, you will promote the continuous improvement efforts of our operations and functions in creating value and driving sustainable outcomes.

Reporting to the Head of Improvement (Coal) this role will see you utilising your excellent influencing skills to motivate others to deliver and implement a high level of performance and efficiency. You will utilise innovative approaches, tools and technology to add real value to our Coal business – setting standards to guide improvement activity, elevating and supporting our people.


Your responsibilities

  • Lead delivery of varied Asset level improvement projects through design to deployment in close collaboration with business and other key stakeholders;
  • Frame improvement opportunity, develops business case and gains senior leadership sponsorship;
  • Coach and support key improvement professionals on business improvement methodologies to help build capability across the business
  • Prioritise improvement initiatives that accelerate value generation; and
  • Promote a continuous improvement culture through the areas of safety, volume and cost.

About you

The successful candidate will have relevant experience in a business improvement role. A mining and resources background is not required and we welcome diverse industry backgrounds into this role.   Your detailed analytical skills including solid financial acumen will ensure success in this role. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are a must, allowing you to build relationships across operations and functions and across all organisational levels.

To be successful you will demonstrate the following:

  • The ability to effectively coach stakeholders on the use of appropriate improvement  tools|process and systems to identify opportunities that ultimately unlock value and eliminate hazards, waste and variability;

  • Strong root cause analysis and problem solving skills with a collaborative approach to finding practical solutions;

  • Be a thought leader with the ability to connect the dots and work with ambiguity;

  • Experience with coaching improvement professionals in adopting a LEAN|Six Sigma approach or a similar methodology to deliver value across the supply chain

  • Be degree qualified in Commerce, Accounting, Business, HR, Engineering or similar;

  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to influence outcomes.
