Role Details
Gold Fields Australia is currently seeking an Engineer: Geotechnical to join their Mining Department at Granny Smith Gold Mine.
Reporting to the Senior Geotechnical Engineer, you will be responsible for the provision of a qualified geotechnical support service within the mine that will assist in the achievement of production and schedule targets, meeting all statutory and site specific standards including cost, safety and environment.
This role is offered on an 8 days on 6 days off roster and is Fly in Fly out from Perth.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Always act in a manner that seeks to enhance the safety culture and performance of GFA and ensures that the Vital Behaviours are adhered to at all times
- Daily production tasks relating to geotechnical engineering including review of development plans, stope and drill designs, documentation of inspections and data collection (core logging/mapping), geotechnical monitoring, stability analyses, design recommendations and QAQC.
- Proactive communication of geotechnical issues in mining to the workforce and management
- Conduct and partake medium term projects as required by the mine to ensure mine wide or slope stability. Collect and analysis geotechnical parameters to ensure future mining recommendations are forthcoming when required.
- Capable of running geotechnical aspects of a mine with some input from other senior staff. Undertaking work for medium term requirements of mine.
- Provide a geotechnical service to the mine through understanding, complying, mentoring and liaising with business partners to promote full statutory compliance with mining regulations, legislation and company safety objectives relevant to ground conditions.
- Actively identify and manage geotechnical risks within the operation and develop and maintain systems to monitor and manage these.
Key factors to your success include;
- Bachelor Degree in Mining Engineering, Geological Engineering or Geology with Post Graduate qualifications in Geomechanics
- Master’s degree is highly desirable
- 2 plus years’ experience in geotechnical engineering
- Experience within underground hard rock mining
- Knowledge of relevant statutory obligations
- Experience using Microsoft Office Suite and mining software such as Vulcan, Deswik, Datamine, Rocscience, Map3D, mXrap
- Structural Modeling exposure
