The Bloomfield Group is Australian owned and operated and has interests in mining and engineering in the Hunter Valley, NSW.  In business for more than 80 years, Bloomfield employs over 500 people and operates two open-cut coal mines: Bloomfield Mine at East Maitland and Rix's Creek Mine, 5klms northwest of Singleton, NSW. 

Coking and thermal coal from the mining operations is railed to Port Waratah Coal Services (PWCS) and then exported throughout Asia.  Bloomfield is a founding member and current shareholder of PWCS.  The company's engineering business' include Four Mile Engineering at East Maitland and Kings Engineering in Rutherford and Lithgow.  The group also has equity positions in companies specializing in renewable energies, recycling and biofuel production.

The Bloomfield Group is looking to recruit a permanent Open Cut Examiner to join our team at Rix's Creek Mine. 

Key responsibilities:

• Lead, manage, coach and communicate to their crews to deliver high standards of safety performance and adherence and understanding of mine plans, business systems and procedures and Group communications
• Inspecting open cut mining areas and controlling and communicating hazards identified
• Providing necessary information, instruction, training and supervision to relevant people on site
• Maximising the effectiveness and efficiency of available resources including people, machinery and equipment
• Ensuring compliance with legislation and reporting issues and problems to the Mine Manager
• Liaising with engineering and tradespeople to ensure maintenance is carried out effectively and efficiently
• Working with CHPP and train loading managers to ensure appropriate labour is supplied
• Liaising with management and technical services team to optimise coal recovery and quality standards

Essential criteria:

• Experience in driving a positive safety culture
• Collaborative relationship building and negotiation skills in order to engage others and work on accountability;
• Demonstrate managing multiple conflicting priorities and strong decision-making skills to achieve the best outcome for crews and production in the short and long term;
• Certificate of Competence to be an Examiner of an Open Cut Mine
• A minimum of 3 years' experience in open cut coal mines as an OCE
• Sound working knowledge of health and safety legislation
• Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills and a "team-oriented" approach to the achievement of tasks
• Excellent technical knowledge and skills, including a broad understanding of operational and maintenance requirements
• Effective problem solving and decision making skills
• Proficiency in general computer skills

Desirable Criteria

• Hold a current Blasting Explosives License
