Phosphate Hill is chemical fertiliser manufacturing plant and mine located 150km SE of Mount Isa in north western Queensland employing over 450 personnel. The open cut mine produces 2.7M tonnes of phosphate rock annually from 5 pits for conversion into ammonia phosphate fertiliser. This is a FIFO site with point of hire (POH) being Townsville with attractive roster swing options achieving sustainable work/life balance.

The Opportunity
Reporting to the Mining Superintendent this role will see you perform a key role in the success of our Phosphate Hiller operations and leadership growth strategies. ​The Senior Mine Engineer is responsible for providing technical expertise to the Phosphate Hill Mining Operations as well as fulfilling all functional requirements covered by the Senior Mine Planner. Drawing up on your mining experience your daily activities will cover;

  • Support maintaining and growing relationships of our mining contractors
  • Develop, gain endorsement and implement medium term and life of mine plan schedules & associated management plans
  • Collaborate and engage with our mining contractor to facilitate cost reduction strategy and efficiency improvements, with a spirit of continuous improvement partnerships
  • Develop commercial plans as per company standards and system requirements which support the overall mine operations.

About You
You are distinguished from your peers by your ability to build and maintain engaging relationships across the operations with an aspiration of influencing positive outcomes as a high contributor to our company. Your proven experience in surface/open-cut mining with specifically in mine planning and/or mine design, compliments your tertiary qualification Mining Engineering. To excel in this role additional skills and experience include:

  • Ability to lead manage and motivate a team, with a strong team spirit and work ethic of inclusion
  • Proficiency in Surpac, XPAC Mine Planning Software will be highly regarded
  • Strong report writing, communication, and presentation skills
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to strive for the best yet be flexible and nimble to adjust to operational changes without compromising on quality and consistency.
