BHP in partnership with Fluor as part of an Integrated Management Team has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Environmental Specialist to join the South Flank Project Team. About this role

- Reporting to the HSE Manager, this is a site based role which will be part of the South Flank IPT HSE Team with the flexibility to work a 15:6 or 20:8 roster. You will have responsibility for supporting the Site Leadership Team and subcontractors to ensure performance outcomes are met and processes are continually improved.

In this role you will:

  • Have accountability to prioritise department specific initiatives and work plans.
  • Develop, maintain and implement site wide processes improvement strategies and ensure compliance to BHP procedures and systems including 1SAP.
  • Lead, coach and mentor team members and subcontractors to ensure delivery against performance targets and improvement plans.
  • Build strong relationships with key stakeholders to ensure compliance with and the continual improvement of the Safety Health and Environmental Management Systems.
  • Provide leadership, guidance and direction to subcontractors specialist in executing their role to support to project construction and commissioning programme.
  • Assist to develop and embed a safety culture that ensures that everyone one goes home safe every day and that is focussed on working together to achieve our project milestones.

About you:

  • Tertiary qualification in Environmental Management or similar.
  • Reptile and fauna handling experience to support an application of a Regulation 15 and 17 licences.
  • Highly developed skills in MS Office packages and corporate data management systems (GIS, Aconex, Compliance Management Systems).
  • Current driver’s licence.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role on a large scale project within the mining sector. Previous BHP or Western Australian experience is highly desirable.
  • Technical background, with a demonstrated skills to identify and effectively manage environmental risk and compliance (BHP procedures, ISO14001 standard, environmental legislation and approvals).
  • Demonstrated ability to work well within a fast paced, high performance team environment.
  • Constructive and persuasive communicator with the ability to seek and provide practical solutions, engage and build relationships through the field leadership process.
  • Strong commitment to BHP’s values of sustainability, integrity, respect, performance, simplicity and accountability.
