About the Role

We are seeking a dynamic geological professional with a strong commitment to Health, Safety, Environment and the Community and continuous improvement in mining operations.

Reporting to the Superintendent Modelling, the Modelling Geologist will timely deliver detailed geological models in the 5 year time horizon, to support mine planning activities. The successful applicant will also work with cross disciplinary teams to integrate large datasets, 4D modelling, non-borehole geophysics and machine learning algorithms.

A key component of the role will be data validation, detailed technical analysis and problem solving along with structural fabric modelling.

This role provides opportunities to tie into developing technologies to incorporate all available information for geological interpretation.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Actively contributing to a safe and environmentally healthy workplace;

• Providing leadership, coaching and mentoring of staff within the group;

• Effective management of safety, environmental, and geo-technical risks during the planning process;

• Geophysical log interpretation and data validation;

• Geological contractor management;

• Provide short term geological models for the mining operations;

• Provide geological input on mining operations;

• Reconciliation of coal mining operations.

The successful candidate will have:  

• A degree in Geoscience or related disciplines

• Experience in stratigraphic geological modelling systems and processes 

• Tonnage estimation and grade control practices

• Thorough understanding of operational and extraction practices

• A demonstrated understanding of the controls of spatial distribution of geological variables and modelling techniques/limitations

• Working knowledge of mineral processing, measurement and sampling practices

In addition:

You will have the ability to synthesise and interpret a wide range of geological data and have technical excellence in 3D modelling software - Vulcan, GoCad, preferred. You will also have an understanding / exposure to geological databases, strong networking and communication skills, problem solving and analytical thinking and report writing and exposure to the JORC / Coal Guidelines.
