About the role

The Senior Environmental Advisor is responsible for the implementation and coordination of allocated environmental management programs and projects in additional to assisting the environment function and  Yara Pilbara on environmental legal obligations and commitments at its Pilbara plants.

Key responsibilities:

  • Deliver strategic environment projects and programs as required and work with all stakeholders in relation to project execution
  • Assist in the implementation of environmental management systems in accordance with legislation, standards, Company Procedures, HESQ Operating Standards and industry best practice (including working towards ISO14001 certification)
  • Ensure environmental objectives are met through consultation with internal departments, contractors, corporate groups and external stakeholders
  • Support the environmental approvals and reporting process
  • Assist in delivery of routine and non-routine internal and external environmental reports
  • Communicate the Companies environmental stewardship responsibilities to internal and external stakeholders
  • Manage environment contractors to ensure environmental compliance
  • Provide support to department managers as needed
  • Assist in mentoring of Environmental Officers
  • Provide support to Environmental Superintendent and HESQ manager

Skills and experience

  • Postgraduate qualification in Environmental Management – Desirable
  • Minimum of 5 years working experience in a Senior Environmental or Environment Consulting role
  • Minimum of 10 years Environmental experience preferably within the Petrochemical or Resources sector
  • Significant experience managing environment projects and issues
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in a leadership role
  • Extensive knowledge of both Commonwealth and State environmental and heritage legislation requirements
  • Lead auditor certification preferred (OH&S/Environment)
  • Fluent English is essential
