About the business and the role
Bluewaters Power is a privately owned energy provider who is focused on being a leading power supplier in the Western Australian Energy market by providing a reliable, competitive and sustainable electricity source from a series of generating assets and technologies.
The Operations Technician will be responsible for monitoring and operating the Generating Units and Balance of Plant to ensure reliable safe and efficient dispatch of energy in accordance with contractual requirements.
The successful candidate will work on a rotating shift roster which includes weekends, public holidays and nightshift hours.
Job tasks and responsibilities
- Ensure that operational and maintenance tasks are performed safely and efficiently with no harm to personnel, equipment or the environment.
- Assist in coordinating shift activities to effectively meet operational and maintenance requirements.
- Provide feedback to Senior Operations Technicians, Maintenance and Engineering staff on operational activities, plant condition and assist in problem solving.
- Regularly carry out routine plant checks, workplace inspections and job observations to ensure efficient operation and continually improve site safety standards.
- Comply with Bluewaters Risk Management, Quality Assurance and Health Safety and Environment Management systems.
- Set high personal and plant performance standards, to ensure plant availability and that compliance to Dispatch Instructions is maintained.
- Ensure that Bluewaters Power Station is operated within equipment and environmental limits and immediately investigate and report any out of limits operation.
- Assist to continually improve efficiency wherever possible.
- Create and update operational documentation (Job Sheets, Plant Notes, Isolations and Procedures).
- Participate in learning on shift, build on individuals strengths by completing plant competencies and assist others where necessary.
- Actively participate in the Permit to Work system.
- Ensure that equipment isolations are suitable to make the equipment safe to perform the work identified in the Permit Request.
- Isolate and restore equipment as per the isolation and restoration schedules.
- Follow process and procedures identified in the Permit to Work Manuals
- Assist with permit training sessions (RIC and Recipient Training).
- Perform Electrical Switching including High Voltage. Participate in writing, checking and implementing Electrical Switching Programes.
Skills and experience
- Advance Boiler, Turbine Operations High Risk Work Licence, High Voltage Switching Ticket and CERTIII ESI Generation highly regarded.
- 5 years or greater Power Station or Heavy Industry experience.
- Setting high work standards for self and others, internal and external, in the drive towards best practice e.g. HSE, customer service, quality and risk.
Your Personal Attributes
- Experienced in use of Permit to Work systems.
- Demonstrated commitment to Health and safety.
- Effective communication skills (oral and written).
- Computer literacy (SAP or other MMS, Microsoft suite of products, etc.).
- Able to clearly articulate information whilst maintaining effective working relationships.
- High attention to detail and the ability to work logically, consistently and accurately.
- Ability to work autonomously, with minimal supervision and work effectively in cross-functional team.
