The Company
Mitsui Coal Holdings (MCH), established in 1982, is the holding company for Mitsui's investments in Australian coal developments.
Headquartered in Brisbane, MCH is currently involved in numerous coal projects across Queensland and New South Wales. MCH also provides technical support to the Moatize coal project - a joint venture between Mitsui and Vale S.A. in Mozambique.
The Role
Mitsui Coal Holdings Resource Development Division is seeking a technical expert to join their team. We are seeking a skilled and experienced professional whom is able to provide technical expertise to ensure sound governance at the operational level. In addition this role is required to provide technical expertise in evaluating mine expansions and acquisitions in support of Mitsui Coal’s growth strategy. This role will be required to conduct comprehensive evaluations of M&A assessments and be involved in decision making. This role will be required to conduct comprehensive research and gather business intelligence to assist with formulation and delivery of acquisition strategy.
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated operational experience in coal mining large scale surface or underground operations and relevant experience in business planning and expansion strategy formulation. They will also possess a mature and positive approach and an ability to work within processes and procedures.
Key responsibilities in the role are:
- Establishing a clear view of the current operational status of our mining investments
- Providing technical expertise to ensure sound governance at the operational level
- Positively influencing mine site management and personnel to enhance business performance
- Assessing documents and project proposals which may include life of mine plans, expansions, cost reduction initiatives and/or acquisitions
- Providing technical expertise in evaluating mine expansions and acquisitions in support of Mitsui Coal’s growth strategy
- Conducting research and gathering business intelligence to assist with formulation and delivery of acquisition strategy
- Proactively searching for new business opportunities
- Strengthening Mitsui Coals mining operational knowledge, expertise and skills
- Provide support to other Mitsui Mining business as needed
- Coordinate Technical consultants and Advisors
The Person
You will enjoy working within a successful team of technical experts and bring your own proven experience to the company. You will also bring to the role mature interpersonal skills and organisational perspective required to achieve results through influence and facilitation. With an ability to co-ordinate and prioritize work you will have the following experience:
- Professional mining engineering or technical qualification
- Ability to contribute in a consultative manner with senior management
- A willingness to contribute outside of immediate responsibility through discretionary effort
- Operational experience in coal mining
- Experience in large scale surface and/or underground operations
- Leadership position in mine planning and project management
- Relevant experience in business planning and expansion strategy formulation
- Track record of due diligence, financial analysis, and evaluation of feasibility studies
- Exposure to Coal Industry in Australia is essential
