SIMEC Mining, a wholly owned subsidiary of GFG Alliance has operations in Whyalla, South Australia and Tahmoor, New South Wales. Our commodity portfolio consists of mining and mineral processing plants from pit to port.

About Tahmoor Colliery

Tahmoor Colliery is an underground longwall coal mine with an associated coal preparation plant producing high quality coking coal for global markets. Tahmoor Colliery has been in operation since 1979 and has a total workforce of approximately 350 personnel. Our mine is located near the scenic Southern Highlands of NSW, and only a short 45-minute drive to the idyllic beaches of the South Coast NSW.

Our Apprenticeship Program

We are offering Mechanical and Electrical Apprenticeships which will commence in January 2019. Your program will consist of the following:

  • 4 year apprenticeship, which you will achieve a nationally recognised trade qualification upon successful completion;
  • Structured on-site workplace experience and TAFE training;
  • Be mentored daily by experienced trades-persons and engineers.

Are you;

  • enthusiastic, motivated and committed to aspire to a career in the electrical and/or mechanical field;
  • interested in the coal mining industry;
  • safety focused, team orientated and have good interpersonal skills;
  • able to commute on a daily basis to the mine site and Wollongong for study purposes;
  • AND have completed at least Year 10 by the end of 2018.

  • Copies of your last 2 years of results from School, TAFE or University;

  • Specify if any of your immediate family are currently employed at Tahmoor Colliery.
