Round Oak Minerals is a subsidiary of Washington H. Soul Pattinson & Co Ltd (WHSP). This includes a Cloncurry Operation with a centralised processing facility located 4km from the township of Cloncurry in North Queensland servicing a number of mining tenements in the area.  Additionally, Round Oak Minerals also has projects in South Australia, Victoria and has just recently acquired the Jaguar Mine in Western Australia. 2018 is shaping up to be a year of significant growth for the Company.

 

The Role

We are currently looking for an experienced Mine Geologist to join our team at our Jaguar Operation. Reporting directly to the Senior Mine Geologist, you will be responsible for collecting detailed geological information regarding the mineralisation, ore shapes and ore locations to enable accurate production models to be produced and allow efficient extraction of the ore body. This knowledge will also be applied in exploration for new ore positions. This permanent fulltime role is offered on an 8:6 FIFO roster from Perth. 


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Undertaking mapping of development headings and monitoring of stopes;
  • Interpreting sampling, mapping and drilling results using appropriate software;
  • Preparing and presenting regular reports documenting mine production, grade control, and drill results;
  • Generating new and varied solutions to problems to improve existing work practices and procedures;
  • Compiling monthly reports, drill programme design, and geological and mineralisation modelling;
  • Ensuring precise estimates of the mined ore is delivered to the mill through development, definition, and discovery of near mine mineralisation; and
  • Demonstrating commitment to safety within the team by complying personally, and fully understanding all safety rules and regulations applicable to area of work.
     

The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate:

  • Bachelor degree in Geology or Geoscience, preferably with honours, accompanied by some previous experience in a similar role at an underground mining operation;
  • Previous 3D modelling exposure;
  • Solid interpretation of datasets;
  • Firm understanding of diamond drilling practices;
  • Proven experience with ore grade control and geological core logging;
  • High level of computer literacy inclusive of MS Office Suite, Surpac and Leapfrog software; and
  • Strong commitment to workplace safety practices.
