Mount Thorley Warkworth Operations moves in excess of 300 Mt of material per annum with a fleet that includes three draglines and three rope shovels. 

About the Role

The Mining Engineer is responsible for delivering quality engineering outputs in the areas of Mine Design and Scheduling.  This role requires strong involvement and engagement in the areas of operations, financial functions, consent and approvals as well as providing technical direction with regard to capital and growth projects.  The successful candidate will be an independent thinker with a track record of seeking and implementing continuous improvement.

You will join a Technical Services team responsible for short, medium and long term mine planning, drill and blast engineering, pit geology and survey.  Our planning scope and close relationship with Mine Operations allows us to support our people to develop their skills and reach their potential.

Job tasks and responsibilities

Reporting to the Mine Planning Superintendent, you will be part of a successful Technical Services team that enjoy what they do and value each other’s contributions. The role will require:

  • Direct involvement in the development of the monthly short range forecasts, 5 Year Plan & Budget and annual LOM Plan. 
  • Direct involvement in fleet strategies and value adding projects.
  • Contribute to the wider Mine Planning team both onsite and corporate as required.
  • Continuously improve the Mine Planning System including Guidelines, Procedures, Templates and Tools.
  • Assist the wider Mine Planning team with technical advice and training for peers.

Skills and experience

Essential Criteria:

  • A bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or in a related engineering discipline is required.
  • Demonstrated technical ability in mine planning and strategic mine planning.
  • Solid people skills with regard to building constructive workplace relationships with peers, customers and stakeholders.
  • Able to demonstrate a track record of innovative problem solving and design improvement initiatives which add value to the business.
