Job tasks and responsibilities

As we continue to grow, Billabong Gold are currently seeking a self-motivated and suitably experienced Project Geologist to join our team. Working on an 8:6 FIFO roster to Plutonic, the role will be responsible for the identification, planning, and execution of safe and efficient mapping/sampling/drilling activities, and the interpretation and reporting of near-mine opportunities to assist Billabong Gold in its growth strategy.

The Responsibilities include, but are not limited to;

• Working with the Senior Geologist take ownership and drive efficient high quality Grade Control function.
• Create and deliver Grade Control models to Mine and Engineering schedules
• Provide technical support to production in mapping, geology modelling, and control of development.
• Provide geological input into the weekly planning meetings
• Produce geological interpretations and ore body outlines for use by mining engineers
• Design, control and monitor diamond and sludge drilling activities
• Ensure all logging of drill-core and other samples are completed on a daily basis.
• Ensure development drives and air legs stopes / rises are mapped / sampled as soon as practical. 
• Check mapped face sheets prepared by the Mine and Production Geologists to ensure mapping is produced in a consistent format and to a high quality and accessible for use.
• Monitor sampling procedures, standards and frequency. This entails reviewing sampling of faces, stopes, rises, and stripping. This requires close liaison with the Mine Geologist and Field Staff.
• Ensure QAQC monitoring and validation of drilling and other sampling results for the target  areas is completed
• Provide input for reporting purposes.
• Provide timely and relevant information as requested by the Chief Geologist.
• Undertake additional/alternative responsibilities as reasonably requested by the Chief Geologist.

Skills and experience

• Commitment to safety in the workplace
• Bachelor of Science, majoring in Geology
• 5 years minimum experience in  a similar role
• Experience working within underground mining is essential (preferably gold)
• Sound knowledge of mapping, structural geology, geochemistry, drilling and sampling techniques. Some understanding of resource estimation methods would be beneficial
• Proficiency using Vulcan software
• Excellent time management and interpersonal communication skills
• Personal drive, an ability to prioritise workload, work autonomously at times and with a wide range of key stakeholders is essential
