Exploration Geologist

Matsa Resources Ltd (ASX: MAT) is seeking an exploration geologist with some previous experience, for its exploration programmes in Western Australia.  Matsa has acquired an excellent tenement portfolio in WA, including a large ~600km2 project (Lake Carey Project) in the gold endowed Laverton Tectonic Zone within the Eastern Goldfields of WA.  This project is the focus of significant exploration activities in support of the company’s recently completed trial gold mining operation at Fortitude and the current push to bring the Red Dog and Red October gold deposits into production.  Matsa’s team includes seasoned exploration and mining geologists and a board of directors committed to growing the company through finding and developing mines.

The Role

The successful applicant is a geologist with a passion for finding mines, who will contribute to design and implementation of exploration programmes, initially focusing on developing and testing new gold targets.  Duties will be strongly oriented towards field work initially focused on the Lake Carey project in Eastern Goldfields of WA. 

The applicant will need demonstrated ability to do the following:

• Geological mapping based on field observations integrated with image interpretation
• Geochemical survey (soils, augers, rock chips) design and implementation
• Drilling programmes (RAB/aircore, RC and diamond) contribute to design and implementation
• Interpret and report on results and provide recommendations / insights
• Operate within set budget guidelines
• Comply with company and statutory workplace procedures including safety, heritage, environment
• Act as the company’s representative as may be required when dealing with contractors, landholders, government departments and other stakeholders

To be considered for the role, the applicant will have the following skills / attributes:

• A recognised degree in geology/geosciences, BSc Hons degree or above is preferred
• Previous geological experience, preferably more than 3 years of such experience
• Good interpersonal skills and enjoys being part of a small team
• Ability to set priorities and operate effectively without close supervision
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Good working knowledge of standard database, GIS and office software
• Current C class manual drivers licence applicable to Western Australia
• A current resident of Western Australia or applicant prepared to relocate at own expense would be preferred
