About the role
We are looking for a Medium Term Planning Engineer to contribute to the operation and technical services teams to achieve the annual operational business measures. The role will provide specialist advice and support to assist operations and support functions in medium term planning.
This role is a great opportunity for a motivated mining engineer, to work with a leading open cut coal mine, with a strong focus on continuous improvements; this role will strengthen your skills in mine planning, projects and finance. Working Day Shift, Monday – Friday/Thursday, 5/2 4/3 roster and reporting to the Medium Term Planning Superintendent, you will be:
- Responsible for designing dig and dump plans and scheduling of main equipment and ancillary fleets
- Working in close cooperation with peers and team leader to develop and implement strategies and improvement initiatives
- Assisting with quarterly forecast and annual planning
- Actively contribute to personal and workplace safety by participating in risk assessments, safety interactions and other practical initiatives
About you
To be successfully considered for this role, you should have:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mining Engineering (or similar discipline)
- Several years’ experience in mine planning for an open cut mine
- Mine Planning software experience (Minescape or similar CAD package)
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills
- Ability to work independently as well as collaborate with and influence multiple stakeholders
It will also be beneficial if you have:
- Experience in mine scheduling
- Experience in Deswik schedule and land haulage simulation.

Located 90km south-west of Mackay in central Queensland, Hail Creek Mine is a modern open cut coal operation.
