Saracen Mineral Holdings (ASX:SAR) is an ASX listed gold producer with its core assets located in world class gold provinces in Western Australia. We are currently seeking an experienced Geotechnical Engineer for our Carosue Dam Operations situated 120kms north east of Kalgoorlie, WA. Carosue Dam is an underground mining operation, with two underground mines in production and a third in early development.  Carosue Dam is at an exciting stage of its underground mine development with ongoing drilling and technical studies underpinning a long life, low cost operation employing bulk mining methods with engineered backfill.   

This role represents a rare opportunity to provide front end technical input into a large, long life underground operation as well as offering a diverse range of experience including open pit and mine start-up.

Reporting to the Geotechnical Superintendent, you will be responsible for:

  • Providing geotechnical advice to mining operations to ensure geotechnical risks are effectively identified, managed and controlled.
  • Providing geotechnical input into the short term production planning and scheduling process.
  • Providing comprehensive input into the stope design and reconciliation processes.
  • Undertaking geotechnical assessments of the underground excavations, rock mass response to mining and ground support performance.
  • Managing the geotechnical aspects of day to day operations.
  • Developing systems of work to ensure the operational aspects of the geotechnical function are managed such as compliance to ground support installation, QA/QC and rehabilitation plans.
  • Data collection, analysis and continuous improvement projects.

You will be expected manage the geotechnical aspects of the day to day operation, undertake improvement projects and build systems of work to establish the operational function of the geotechnical team.

To be successful in this role you will require the following skills and experience:

  • A tertiary qualification in Geotechnical Engineering/ Rock Mechanics, Mining Engineering, Civil Engineering or Structural Geology.
  • Approximately 2-5 years of geotechnical experience in underground hard rock mines.
  • Demonstrated track record of involvement and achievement in successful projects working both independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Proficient in mining and geotechnical software (preferably Deswik, RocScience, IMS).
  • Experience in a range of underground mining methods, backfill and/or open pit experience will be well regarded.
