Position

Reporting to the Signals Lead in the Rail Engineering GTS team, you will be responsible for providing solutions, expert guidance and technical support in the Railroad department specialising in the field of Rail Signals. You will also govern Rail Signals standards and technology for Rail across a broad range of areas in addition to ensuring all adds, moves and changes are managed through the change and configuration management process and are commissioned without unplanned safety and business impacts.

Additional responsibilities will include:

  • Support and guide firmware upgrades and software updates for all rail signalling elements and equipment
  • Ensure engineering solutions identified to address reliability issues and reduce system faults
  • Ensure project-engineering designs meet the design standards and are the right solution for the business
  • Provide technical input on rail signalling maintenance strategies and system lifecycle strategies for rail signalling
  • Support and adhere to 1SAP Work Management Process
  • Provide technical input into planned growth, technology and optimisation projects to ensure business capability is met
  • Provide technical input into Mines, Technology, Integrated Operations and Business Planning projects to support business capability improvements while ensuring associated risks are managed for Rail
  • Identify the customers’ requirements, review design specifications, budget estimates and support the project team to the highest standard
  • Actively recommends and implements improvement, risk reduction and cost saving initiatives
  • Ensuring compliance to governance documents through scheduled auditing to ensure systems are controlled and managed to reduce safety and business risks


Skills and Experience

As the successful candidate, you will possess the following:

  • Tertiary qualification in Electrical, Communications, or Signaling Engineering
  • Demonstrated technical and professional skills within rail signaling including ATP
  • Computer literacy with the Microsoft Office suite of applications, especially Excel, PowerPoint, MS project and Word is essential
  • Ability to communicate confidently at all levels and establish a good rapport with a diverse range of people, both internal and external, is essential
  • The ability to critically review research work, plans, specifications, drawings and provide workable and reliable documentation
  • Experience in communications based train control and signalling systems would be advantageous
  • C Class driver’s license

Location / Roster

Residential: In this 5:2 residential role you will be based in the coastal town of Port Hedland, Western Australia. Port Hedland is home to our port and rail operations and is the largest regional centre in North West Australia. The 20,000-strong population enjoys well-established education services, entertainment, shopping and medical facilities. As a residential position you will also be provided with subsidised rental accommodation in addition to power and water subsidies.

FIFO: We also have a FIFO position available working a 5:2 4:3 roster with flexible work arrangements considered. The outstanding facilities at the FIFO villages include; a fully equipped gym, TV lounge and games rooms. Additionally you will have access to the state of the art aquatic and sporting facilities in the town of Port Hedland. All rooms at the villages have their own en-suite bathroom, television, refrigerator and air-conditioning.
