Bis Industries is seeking a WHSE Advisor to join our mining and heavy industrial team in Newlands.  Working closely the leadership team, this is a key and challenging role that plays a central pillar in leading and delivering our award winning Zero Harm strategy.

Daily, you will be responsible for the provision of advice and support to local management in the areas of WHSE as well as training, quality, injury management and return to work functions.  This is a residential role in Newlands, however some out of hours and intra/inter-state travel will be required.
   
Key responsibilities for this role include:
    • demonstrate commitment to our goal of Zero Harm to both personnel and equipment;
    • develop, implement and continuously review and improve WHSE systems;
    • champion the consistent promotion of organisational policies, procedures and objectives and comply with organisational safety reporting requirements;
    • provide advice, interpretation and guidance to Management on statutory requirements and best practice developments within the OH&S and Environmental field;
    • track proposed and emerging OH&S and Environmental legislative and regulator requirements and provide reviews to Management;
    • ensuring appropriate reporting & documentation is conducted, such as monthly safety statistics and reports, daily incident & injury reports, ICAM investigation reports, inspection, audit reports and toolbox sessions;
    • ensure site training records are maintained;
    • ensure that a Training Needs Analysis is conducted regularly;
    • ensure site training is compliant to required standards; and
    • ensure all Company and statutory requirements for injury management are met for injured employees, including allocation of alternate duties and minimisation of time off work  
The successful applicant will possess the following:
    • undergraduate Degree in OHS (Bachelor in WHS) or higher with previous experience in heavy industrial and/or mining;
    • certificate IV in Training and Assessment and experience in the application of training and assessment systems;
    • formal qualifications and experience in Auditing are well regarded;
    • significant experience in incident investigations using the root cause analysis (ICAM Preferred);
    • formal qualification and experience in Injury Management and Rehabilitation is preferred;
    • strong knowledge and application of WHS legislation, including codes of practice;
    • high level of communication, coordination and organisational skills;
    • be highly decisive and have the ability to influence others and communicate at all levels internally and with clients;
    • ability to work with minimal supervision;
    • experience with the implementation and maintenance of certified management systems such as AS/NZS 4801,  ISO 9001 and AS/NZS ISO 14001;
    • experience with self-insurance (Bis Industries is self-insured with Comcare); is well regarded; and
    • computer skills in Microsoft word processing, power point presentations, spread sheets etc.
