In response to the increased demand for our geotechnical services, AMC Consultants is looking for a full time permanent Graduate Geotechnical Engineer to work in our Perth office. Based in West Perth, you will work with a group of highly experienced geotechnical engineers on exciting high-profile projects, both underground and open pit, learning a wide variety of skills across all disciplines of mining geotechnical engineering.

Who you will be working with and reporting to

Ruth Stephenson, Geotechnical Manager Perth / Principal Geotechnical Engineer who has been with AMC for six years. She has a broad range of experience and a comprehensive understanding of underground geotechnical engineering, geotechnical data collection, stope stability analysis, and geotechnical risk management. Ruth will oversee your technical progress and development.

Mike Sandy is also part of the geotechnical group. Mike is a Director / Principal Geotechnical Engineer who has been with AMC for over 23 years. Mike's primary expertise is in rock mechanics (underground operations) including ground support design, rock mass characterization, mining method selection and optimization, extraction sequencing and applied numerical modelling. Mike also has extensive experience in underground mine planning and feasibility studies, mine geology, dewatering, diamond drilling strategies and management of mining technical research. You will work closely with Mike to learn from his experience and assist with his projects.

Asoka Herath is a Principal Geotechnical Engineer who has been with AMC for several years. Asoka has 35 years of experience in geotechnical engineering of rock and soil slopes. This includes extensive experience in large open pits globally in both operational and geotechnical study roles. Whilst primarily working with Mike, you will also be working with Asoka on open pit geotechnical projects.

Now a bit more information about the role

Specialist skills and tasks required:

• Must have excellent English writing and speaking skills.
• Must have excellent computer skills including fast touch typing and excel.
• Tasks will include:
  • Use of 3D mining software for viewing mine designs and geotechnical information.
  • Compile and verify data.
  • Project data collection including visiting mine sites to conduct core logging and mapping.
  • Use of geotechnical software to analyse geotechnical data.
  • Gain familiarity with numerical modelling software to set up and run models.
  • Team up with highly experienced geotechnical engineers to assist with interesting projects.
  • Report writing and drafting of figures.

Qualifications required:

• Degree in geological engineering / rock mechanics / geotechnical engineering, or
• Degree in geology, civil engineering or mining engineering with at least 1 year of practical mining experience, or
• Degree in geology, civil engineering or mining engineering with a thesis / project completed in geological / geotechnical engineering. 
• A manual driver’s license.

Salary

The salary package offered for this position will be commensurate with the skills and experience of the successful candidate.
