Mt Weld Mining Pty Ltd is a wholly owned subsidiary of Lynas Corporation, a 1.8 Billion dollar capitalised company. The Mt Weld Rare Earths Project is located approximately 35kms south of Laverton in the North-Eastern Goldfields of Western Australia.

The Mt Weld concentrator has the capacity to process over 300,000 tonnes of high grade ore per year from an open pit operation, with a mine life of more than 20 years. The process on site comprises crushing and blending then ball milling followed by multi-stage flotation, thickening, filtration and bagging. A rare earth concentrate is then exported to Lynas Corporation's wholly owned rare earth oxide separation plant based in Kuantan, Malaysia.

 

The Role:

An opportunity exists for an experienced Senior Mining Engineer to join Lynas Corporation. The role is accountable for providing mining engineering production and technical support to the operation including short to medium term planning and project work. Coverage as the Alternate Quarry Manager and contractor management for mining, crushing and haulage is also part of the role. Input to the Reserve is expected to assist in applying up to date modifying factors. This is a permanent, FIFO position from Perth to our Mt Weld Operations on an 8/6 roster.

 

Skills required for this role:

  • 3+ years’ experience within similar mining engineering role in open pit mining operations
  • Drill and blast experience
  • Familiar with best practice, safety, environment management processes
  • Provide engineering support in the day to day operational requirements of development and production activities
  • Proactively support the mine planning and scheduling processes and identify constraints and opportunities to meet operational objectives
  • Ensure the timely and accurate daily reporting of mining performance physicals to management and the wider operations team
  • Solid experience with planning and pit optimisation software packages including Surpac, MPX or other production databases, and MS Office tools
  • Strong organisational skills with an eye for detail and analysis
  • Liaise with, and provide support to, external contractors in regards to operational and schedule requirements at Mt Weld Operations
  • Strong ability to work collaboratively within a team
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines on multiple tasks
  • Tertiary Qualification in Mining (Essential)
  • Current WA Unrestricted Quarry Manager’s Certificate of Competency (Essential)
  • Valid WA "C" Class Drivers Licence (Essential)

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the mining of the Mt Weld ore body to ensure the safe, timely and accurate mining and stockpiling of ore on a day to day basis
  • Short and medium term planning
  • Project work including dewatering, improvement initiatives and input to approvals.
  • Manage drill and blast requirements (when needed)
  • Implement geotechnical requirements on a daily basis
  • Effective production management including ore blending and ore supply
  • Adhere to policies and procedures to ensure that site, corporate, and legislative requirements for the open pit operation are met
  • Timely and accurate reporting of mining operation activities
  • Ensure a culture of continuous improvement for the Mt Weld mining operation
  • Fulfil position of Alternate Quarry Manager
