We are Australia’s largest privately owned mining, construction and maintenance services company, working across the resources, energy and infrastructure sectors. We are delivering an existing contract at our Whyalla operations in regional South Australia.  Our scope includes ore excavation, drill and blast, haulage operations, plant feed and train loading.

Due to recent growth in the project scope, BGC Contracting now have an opportunity for an experienced Senior Mining Engineer to join our South Australia Operations.

Reporting to our Project Manager, the Senior Mining Engineer will be responsible for providing a high level technical support in relation to design, engineering, mine planning and drill and blast activities onsite. This role can expect to have a strong interface with our supervision teams and reporting on progress and costs.

Working in this diverse environment, with a strong Team culture committed to safety, you will be responsible for:

  • Assists in implementing project KPIs and setting of objectives and KPIs for work teams
  • Provides technical support to operational staff including contractual support around mine engineering, geology, survey and technical services
  • Accurately monitors and reports outcomes on an ongoing basis to ensure compliance with project KPIs and client requirements
  • Organises and plans on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis to ensure the efficient and effective utilisation of resources; both people and capital
  • Prepares operational budgets and forecasts as required
  • Prepares mining contract valuation presentations
  • Prepares operational damage reports and monthly scorecards
  • Develops and reviews mining procedures and foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation
  • Analyses site data and prepares required reports
  • Provides clear leadership and direction and promotes and fosters a team culture consistent with the BGC Contracting CHARTER and Values
  • Provides coaching, mentoring and development opportunities for direct reports and builds the capability of business unit personnel

  • Previous experience in a similar role backed by a mining engineering degree or equivalent
  • Ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders at various levels
