SIMEC Mining, a wholly owned subsidiary of GFG Alliance has operations in Whyalla, South Australia and Tahmoor, New South Wales. Our commodity portfolio consists of mining and mineral processing plants from pit to port. Tahmoor Colliery is an underground longwall coal mine with an associated coal preparation plant producing high quality coking coal for global markets. Tahmoor Colliery has been in operation since 1979 and has a total workforce of approximately 350 personnel. Tahmoor Colliery is located near the scenic Southern Highlands of NSW, and only a short 45-minute drive to the idyllic beaches of the South Coast NSW.

We are currently seeking experienced Electrical Mineworkers (Trade) to join our underground mine team. Reporting to your supervisor, you will be a critical crew member to drive performance through effective maintenance strategies.

Your duties with involve:

  • Installation, commissioning, maintenance and repair of electrical equipment including overhauls, repairs, breakdowns and change outs;
  • Fault diagnostics and hazard identification of electrical systems;
  • Maintenance and rectification work including routine preventative schedules, statutory inspections and condition monitoring reports;
  • Actively participate in the daily mine plan and to achieve shift targets;
  • Promote compliance of company policies and procedures, and place a strong emphasis on safety requirements and general housekeeping;
  • Work as part of a team to continually implement business improvement opportunities to achieve the highest levels of equipment utilisation;
  • Equipment worked on will include but not limited to: Conveyors, Reticulation, Communication systems, Pumps, HV systems and Process area electrical equipment.

The successful candidate will possess an Electrical Trade proficiency certificate (e.g. UEE30811 Certificate III in Electrotechnology - Electrician). High Voltage competencies are advantageous. You will have 2+years qualified working experience within the Underground Mining industry and preferably coal. You will be familiar with HV systems, maintenance management systems and mining processing plant equipment. You will have a sound understanding of risk management practices and safe work procedures. Your essential attributes will include attention to detail, excellent interpersonal skills, safety focussed, and the ability to work in a high pressured environment.
